Leadership
De La Salle takes pride in teaching leadership. Leadership comes in many forms – both formal and informal.
Each year between 12 and 15 year 12 students are elected as School Leaders, these students receive formal leadership training. Other students in years 10, 11 and 12 also have the opportunity to take part in formal leadership training.
A formal Student Representative Council (S.R.C.) operates on the Tiverton campus where representatives from each Homeroom meet to discuss and initiate school programs. This discussion includes curriculum and the extended life of the College through co-curricular programs.
Year 9 student representatives are formally inducted as Campus Leaders and undergo a leadership program.
Another important facet of leadership at our College springs from the belief of our Founder St John Baptist De La Salle that ‘good conduct helps create good schools’. So it is that our students are presented with standards of conduct, grooming and study habits. Modeling these standards for each other is a significant aspect of leadership.
Many students are leaders at De La Salle without the formal title. Leadership is experienced through service to others in our College Outreach Program, Lasallian Service, involvement in the St Vincent de Paul Society, work at the St Kilda Mission or helping to organise Founders Day and Mission Action Day. Often leadership is simply being of service to others in the school community through acts of kindness, cooperation and support.
