Discipline
Discipline is an essential part of the character formation of a young man in the Christian culture. The aim of discipline is to enhance personal growth, develop responsibility and foster leadership. It establishes a climate in whcih students are encouraged to strive for increasing levels of self-discipline and responsibility and where students, staff and parents experience cooperation and mutual support. Standards of conduct, grooming and study habits are presented to students, with the expectation of generating a spirit of good will and pride in all aspects of their school life.
The College is mindful of the ideals of our Founder, St John Baptist De La Salle, who strongly believed that good conduct, amongst other elements, created effective, quality schools. It is important to note that De La Salle’s understanding of correction included the complementary elements of rewarding the good and acknowledging the positive. He believed that a young person should be led gently but firmly, small step by small step, to changes in attitude and behavior rather than simply being punished. When a student falls short of the ideals put before him, he will be led to understand this and shown the way to be and do his very best in the future.
